We are pleased to announce that we have two new instructors at Yoga Bella – Tonja Arpin and Carrie Kearney!
Tonja Arpin has taken over the Thursday evening 5:30 Hatha/Gentle blend class, as well as Friday morning’s 9:15 Hatha class. Here is a chance to learn a little bit about Tonja. Come to her classes – according to one of our regulars, you will “love her voice” and appreciate her commitment to the practice.
From Tonja: ” I started practicing yoga in 2000. I was a stressed out mom with a job outside the home and yoga sounded appealing to me. I took a 6 week Hatha class at a community center and very quickly I knew this was the right thing for me. I enjoyed the focus on alignment and how great I felt after class. I continued for 2 years with the same teacher moving to a yoga studio when she left the community center environment. There I was exposed to other teachers and other styles of yoga which I also enjoyed. Along the way I sometimes fell off the “yoga bandwagon” for long or short time periods, but I always found my way back.
Around 2007 I decided to take step away from work outside the home to raise my daughter and focus on my health. I was developing some chronic health issues that I needed to address with some lifestyle changes. I began doing group exercise classes, and found that the combination of exercise and socializing was key for me. I kept coming back week after week, and as I got more fit I began to see improvements in my health. During this time I realized that yoga was a great compliment to the classes I liked and to my running. I began focusing on consistency in my yoga practice.
In the summer of 2018, I decided I wanted to take a deeper dive into yoga and learn more beyond asana practice, and enrolled in teacher training. My yoga practice is a very important part of my life. It makes me a more peaceful person. It helps me keep life’s ups and downs in perspective and to feel gratitude for all I have been given.
My husband, Rich Fisher, and I met in 7th grade band. We were friends though high school and began to date in college. We have been married for almost 29 years. We have one daughter, Madison, who will graduate from DePaul University in June.
I like to be outdoors year around. I like to run, hike, bike, snowshoe, paddle board. I love cooking and eating! I started my career as a buyer for Nordstrom and still have a love for fashion and home decorating.
I love to travel and have a pretty long bucket list of places I would like to go. In the US I would like to see Napa Valley and Yosemite. I would like to hike a portion of the Appalachian trail. (Fun fact- while I love to hike, I hate to camp, so it will have to be a very short portion!) I would also like to go to Greece, Spain, Tahiti, Iceland and on a safari.
Everyone at Yoga Bella has been so kind and welcoming. I love the sense of community at the studio. I feel very fortunate to be part of this group of amazing students and teachers.”
Carrie will be teaching Saturdays for 11am Gentle, beginning on February 15th. More about Carrie to follow…
