While we do not offer dedicated Pilates classes, we do offer Yoga Fusion, which includes components of classic Mat Pilates. The founder of Pilates is Joseph Pilates. As a child, Joseph suffered from asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever, etc. to name a few. He was also bullied by bigger German children. At a very young age, he stopped seeing from his left eye, the result of an attack by a bully. To become stronger, he started educating his body through gymnastics, yoga, skiing, boxing, and martial arts. By the age of 14, he was posing as a model for anatomy charts due to his Greek God-like physique.
With his yogic roots, he creatively developed a system of exercises which were intended to strengthen the human mind and body. Pilates believed that mental and physical health were interrelated. The most interesting thing about his methods, especially looking back upon them today, is that he had a captive hospitalized control group during World War I, and all of his participants were spared from becoming infected with the aggressive Spanish Flu of 1918.
